We were working in an RSL club together, he was the manager and I was the catering supervisor. We used to have sweet conversations over the internal phones.
Paul proposed while we were traveling through the US. Paul originally planned to propose in Disneyland and had put the ring carefully in a pocket of the bag that i was carrying. Disneyland was cold and wet so I was quite annoyed, so he decided not to propose there. He asked if I wanted to get married by Elvis in Vegas and I thought he was joking so said no. He finally built up the courage to ask me to marry him for real when we were in New York.
The dress was the third dress I tried on in the first shop. When I tried it on a felt so excited. It was a great price and my mum cried when she saw me in it, so we got it!
The ceremony was on the riverbank of Wyndham estate, overlooking the vineyards. When we looked at the venue we knew that this beautiful view was where we wanted to be married. We got some great photos around the riverbank, and also around the historic house on the property and of course in the vines. The ceremony was beautiful with a charming ceremony conducted with good humour by Ed Taylor. The day was windy but slowed just for our marriage, and the view was so special.
The reception was beautiful and elegant. The decorating at Tamburlaine was beautiful, and we loved surprising our guests with the fireworks while we cut the cake.
Paul – seeing Carly at the end of the red carpet, just as she came to walk down the isle. I was totally struck with how beautiful she looked and how excited I was to marry her.
Paul – looking down the isle to see Paul’s big smile and knowing that this was the days I would marry by best friend. Also I loved the photo shoot around the historic house, having fun with our bridal party, smiling uncontrollably because we had just gotten married. I distinctly remember wishing that moment would last forever!

Thierry was very relaxed and made the day a lot of fun. No painful posed photos, but he managed to capture some beautiful photos as we naturally went through the day. The photos are amazing, we are so happy with them. He was great to have with us on the day!
We live in Sydney, and given we got married in the hunter, we used hunter valley wedding planner a lot to research suppliers in the area. We had a long engagement so the planning process was fun and not at all stressful. When we found something we liked we booked it, but we had the luxury of putting decisions off until later if we were unsure of something. The long planning time was really fun and we enjoyed it thoroughly!
Our guests travelled from Sydney, grafton, brisbane and Melbourne mostly. A lot of us stayed at cypress lakes, although guests booked their own accommodation. We travelled from Sydney. .
Where possible, could you also provide details of any ‘tourist’ style activities you and/or your guests were able to fit in whilst visiting the area (e.g. wine tasting, tours, shopping, dining, exploring, etc).
Our guests and us did some wine tasting, we had a breakfast BBQ the next day in the BBQ area at the hunter valley gardens, and the boys played aqua golf the morning of the wedding.
The funny stories mostly relate to our photographer ( Thierry ). Thierry was eager to get a shot of us on the riverbank so he took him pants off and waded thigh-deep into the water to get the shot he wanted. We had a good laugh at him standing in the water in his undies! He also really liked the light from the sunset and wanted to continue shooting past the time the venue had asked us to leave. When we went to leave the gates were locked and we had to drive through the vines to get out!
( for the record the light was really really good! lol Thierry )
