Relaxed Country Weddings in the Hunter

Some of my favourite weddings aren’t formal at all. No grand staircase, no strict timeline, just two people who love each other, a paddock of long grass and the late afternoon sun doing its thing.

That’s the feel of a country wedding in the Hunter. The groom’s hat comes off and ends up in his hand. The dress trails through the grass and nobody worries about it. There’s a creek running over the rocks somewhere behind you, and the only sound is the wind.

When a day is this relaxed, I keep my approach relaxed too. I’ll suggest a spot where the light is good, give you a little direction to get started, then step back and let you be yourselves. The real moments happen when you stop thinking about the camera: a laugh, a quiet look, him pulling you in a bit closer.

Country weddings also leave room for the playful bits. A bit of cheek, a garter moment, a walk back through the grass with the sun dropping behind the hills. Those are the photos couples tell me they love most years later, because they look and feel exactly like them.

If you’re planning a laid-back country wedding and want photos that feel natural rather than posed, I’d love to hear about it. Have a look at my wedding packages and get in touch when you’re ready for a chat.
