Your Ultimate Relaxed Wedding Timeline | Thierry Boudan Photography
Your wedding day should reflect who you are as a couple — relaxed, joyful, and uniquely you. After photographing over 1,400 weddings, I’ve seen every kind of timeline, and I’m here to share what works best to keep your day smooth, stress-free, and unforgettable.
Why a Wedding Timeline Matters
A well-planned timeline allows you to savour each moment without rushing or missing a thing. By setting clear expectations for when and where everything happens, you’ll feel more relaxed — and your photos will reflect that too.
Key Things to Consider for Your Wedding Timeline
When creating your timeline, think about:
Hair & makeup timing — ensuring enough time for final touches and getting into your dress
Getting dressed — leaving enough buffer before the ceremony
Travel time to the ceremony
Ceremony start time — taking into account the season, lighting, and sunset
Length of your ceremony — chat with your celebrant about timing
Family photo locations & timing
Bridal party photo session — who’s coming along and how much time you’ll need
Golden hour & sunset — perfect for romantic portraits
Reception arrival time — plan your grand entrance
Reception event timings — speeches, cake cutting, first dance, and possible sunset photo break
It may seem like a lot — but with over 1,400 weddings of experience, I’m here to help you fine-tune every part.
Example Wedding Day Breakdown
📸 Getting Ready – 2 Hours Before Ceremony
With one photographer
I typically arrive at the bride’s getting ready location 2 hours before the ceremony. By this time, hair and makeup are nearly done, leaving plenty of space for fun, relaxed photos of details, candid moments, and getting dressed.
If the groom is nearby, I’ll head over for a few shots of the guys — beers, banter, ties, and those last-minute nerves.
With two photographers
One of us heads to the bride’s location, and the other to the groom’s. This gives extra time to capture the unique pre-wedding stories — whether it’s a game of golf, a quick trim, or a drink with mates.
